Students in Ms. Kathy Straubel's AP biology classes are participating in the Rutgers University Waksman Student Scholars program. This program provides an opportunity for the students to conduct an authentic research project in molecular biology and bioinformatics and publish their findings. Here students are micropipeting solutions to set up their bacterial culture. Through this project students will learn skills including micropipeting, PCR, gel electrophoresis and restriction digestion in order to identify the protein being coded for by a gene. They will then analyze the DNA sequence in order to determine characteristics of the protein including structure, function and interactions. If successful they will be published on the NCBI database.

As stated by Superintendent Dionisio, Sgt. Rich will not be presenting tomorrow, Tuesday, February 6. As a result, we will be having a regular schedule tomorrow. Grade level assemblies will still be held, but they will follow normal period schedule times. Senior students will be dismissed at the end of Period 7, at 1:45 pm. We apologize for the inconvenience, and we will communicate when we have a rescheduled date for Sgt. Rich.
